The Laboratory Assistant will perform various tasks to support the laboratory technical staff; specimen procurement, specimen processing, lab testing, send outs and the maintenance of quality assurance records. This position is on-site in Jacksonville, FL. The schedule is Tuesday - Saturday, 2 PM - 10 PM EST.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, transporting and storing specimens.
- Operates laboratory equipment and performs routine instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and minor repairs.
- Performs quality assurance activities.
- Maintains adequate stock of supplies and manages the inventory by transporting and distributing supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Ability to complete time sensitive tasks according to protocols.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time.
Education and Experience:
- High School Graduate.
- Recognized national certification certificate, (i.e. ASPT, ASCP) preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens and utilizing instrumentation.
- Ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials to which they may be exposed.
- Requires frequent sitting or standing.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
