The Dickson Heart Intensive Care Unit (DHICU) is a 20-bed, high-acuity cardiac ICU specializing in the management of patients requiring advanced cardiovascular care and invasive hemodynamic monitoring. This fast-paced, highly specialized unit treats patients with complex conditions including ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), acute decompensated heart failure, end-stage heart failure, and cardiogenic shock, many of these patients require advanced therapies such as LVAD or heart transplantation.
Registered nurses in DHICU are experts in the management of critically ill cardiac patients and are trained in the care of advanced mechanical circulatory support devices. These include intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), Impella, and durable LVAD/RVAD
