The Opportunity:

The Laboratory Assistant 2 is responsible for performing various laboratory support procedures with minimal supervision. This includes tasks such as managing lab waste and research material based on their hazardous components; managing department space; and utilizing complex equipment that incorporates high pressure and extremely hot steam, caustic chemicals, and other hazardous materials. The LA2 acts as a communications hub between central university departments (Environmental Health & Safety, University Stores, Surplus Stores, Central Receiving, Waste Management, etc.) and utilizes these relationships to educate VMP researchers on the proper procedures for various tasks to remain in compliance with university, state, and local regulations.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

Monthly Salary:

$3,752 to $5,011 | Range 42 (Steps A-M) | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

• One year’s experience as a Laboratory Assistant 1 OR equivalent education/experience.

• Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
