Sr. Financial Analyst

IT@JH Administration and Finance is seeking a Sr. Financial Analyst who coordinates, performs and oversees the budgeting and financial activities related to JHH and JHU accounts of a Johns Hopkins Medicine department, including cost centers, departmental and sponsored budgets, revenues (including revenue cycle management), and gift accounts as they relate to formal and informal departmental goals, standards, policies and procedures. The Sr. Financial Analyst analyzes University and Hospital financial data and develops complex reports for forecasting and results analysis. The Sr. Financial Analyst assists in financial studies and analysis regarding projected changes in revenues and expenditures, and ensures compliance with Hospital and University and/or agency regulations and restrictions. This position may train others in budget related policies and procedures.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Budget Responsibility
- Participate in the development of the Departmental Annual Operating Budget for JHH and JHU.
- Follow-up on budget variances by investigating causes, identify, and implementing solutions.
Accounting Responsibility
- Prepare, and monitor revenue, and expense accruals for monthly financial statements.
- Develop appropriate systems within department to ensure timely and accurate recording of revenue and expense.
Analysis
- Prepare management reports to measure and forecast financial performance.
- Meetings with cost center managers to discuss financial issues.
- Regularly participates in a variety of projects such as financial analyses of new programs, and projects institutional costs.
- Review, track, and trend volumes.
Billing
- Identify and resolve A/P issues, and A/R issues.
- Reconcile billing with patient activity.
- Perform Charge Description Master (“CDM”) updates.
Managing
- Coordinates projects which may involve several different employees.
- Trains employees within the Department on financial tools, analyses, and systems.
- Provides support and guidance to financial analyst.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Exchanges non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate requiring good oral and written communication.
- Monitors and approves Hospital and University expenditures throughout the budgetary period.
- Keeps abreast of laws and regulations that apply to a particular staff function or field of professional expertise to maintain up to date compliance.
- Understands, monitors, and positively impacts hospital billing reports.
- Monitors, identifies, and communicates over-expenditures to faculty and administrative staff.
- Requires analytical ability to develop some management, narrative, and statistical reports.
- Management and development of staff.
- Managed care pricing.
- Revenue cycle principles, cost accounting principles.
- Corporate finance as it relates to all aspects of healthcare which may include the following: budget analysis for healthcare programs and projects.
- Knowledge of budget processes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field.
- Five years progressively responsible related financial/accounting experience.
- Additional education (master's in a related field) may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree.
- Minimum of five years of experience in finance, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Experience in a large and complex finance department.

Starting Salary Range: Min $62,300 - Max $109,000 Annually (Commensurate with experience)
