AVP, Claims Manager-Personal Lines

Chubb seeks an Assistant Vice President Claims Manager to lead the Personal Lines Complex Casualty claims team that provides specialized claim handling on behalf of Chubb’s Personal Lines customers. The Personal Lines Complex Casualty Claims Manager will have oversight responsibility for adjudicating claims covered by primary and excess Personal Lines policies with jurisdictional responsibility for all 50 states. This role reports to the Vice President of Personal Lines Casualty.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, develop and manage a team of approximately 6 claim professionals with varying advanced experience by developing and executing on individual professional development plans for each team member.
  • Recognize significant potential exposures on claims and prepare appropriate alerts and timely early warning watchlist matters to senior managers and our internal business partners.
  • Appropriately manage severity exposures in a timely manner, including but not limited to early identification and reporting of a severity exposure, and the development and execution of investigation, evaluation, and resolution strategies.
  • Train and develop the team to appropriately identify, analyze and address coverage issues in a timely and professional manner, and communicate coverage positions to our internal and external business partners as warranted.
  • Directs and closely monitors cases with financial impact through trial/resolution.
  • Authorize reserve and settlement authority in a timely manner or make recommendations to management as warranted.
  • Conduct monthly self-audits against Best Practices standards.
  • Provide exceptional service to our internal and external business partners.
  • Adhere to individual authority grants, all statutory and regulatory requirements, fair claim practices and local compliance requirements, including licensing.
  • Partner with HR to manage performance, foster talent development, support diversity and inclusion and create succession plans.

  • Proven experience as a Casualty Claims professional with a high degree of specialized and technical competence with emphasis on hands-on file and litigation management.
  • Experience with primary and excess bodily injury, property damage, and personal injury claims.
  • Exceptional organization and time-management skills.
  • Strong background and demonstrated ability in dealing with complex coverage matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications and negotiation skills; and an ability to deal with customers and business partners in a professional manner.
  • Ability to make prompt, intelligent decisions based upon detailed analysis of complex issues.
  • Demonstrated strong relational skills particularly in adverse or high-pressure situations.
  • Working knowledge of industry best practices and procedures.
  • An ability to work independently and assimilate learning materials on many different subjects from various sources.
