Lead, Assembly

Monday – Thursday, 3:45 PM to 2:15 AM

Base Rate $24.00 to $34.00 + $2.00 Shift Differential

What You’ll Be Doing:

Under general supervision, directs the process related activities of employees in assigned area to complete a wide variety of complex and intricate assembly operations and processes which lead to the production of precision optical products. Responsibilities are complex and require judgment and a solid understanding of people, procedures, processes, and practices. Activities may include making work assignments, providing training, evaluating adherence to procedures, preparing documentation, and presenting reports to supervisors.  May determine sequence and methods where specifications are not available. 

  • Assists Assembly Supervisors in maintaining a safe and ergonomic work environment through training, holding weekly safety meetings, maintaining clean work areas, properly maintaining equipment/tooling, and rotating employee workstation assignments.
  • Makes workstation assignments and reassignments as frequently as needed to safely reach the quality and production goals while also meeting the ergonomic rotation requirements.
  • Audits assigned area of responsibility for adherence to policy and procedure which could include work in process products on the line, correct tool function and usage, following written procedures, safety rules, clean-room procedures, out of calibration tooling and equipment, and correct use of greases, lubricants and adhesives.
  • Insures adherence to Kanban size limitations; coordinates, schedules, assigns and completes open work-orders; orders parts; creates and monitors back-orders using the ERP system; tracks down missing parts on assigned work-orders and expedites parts to the assembly line; prepares non-conformance paperwork on defective parts or products; creates tooling requests and provides input into tooling repairs; trains or assigns training to employees and monitors work procedures for accuracy and writes up change requests if necessary. 
  • Insures proper disposition of all scrap parts in assembly on a daily basis.
  • Sets-up and maintains databases for the purpose of tracking defect rates and other production related reporting.
  • Prepares and delivers a daily progress report to the supervisor regarding production expectations and line shortages in the daily production meeting. Communicates the daily production report to employees, keeping them aware of the daily and monthly production goals, daily defect rate, and leading discussions on improvements.
  • Conducts problem solving for quality, efficiency, safety and ergonomic issues and seeks out technical support when needed. Participates in the set-up of new part distribution systems.
  • Reports issues and concerns with employees to the supervisor with regard to safety, production, efficiency, attendance, quality, or any other work or process related issues that surface.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Skills and Experience You’ll Need:

  • This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and typically at least 4 years of progressively complex and varied assembly experience as an Assembler A. Must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of all processes, procedures, and work instructions for the assigned work area.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English with a diverse employee population, which includes reading, writing and verbal skills in either one-on-one or work group formats, to train employees in assigned
