What is a Chief of Staff at EDB?

The Chief of Staff (CoS) will work closely with the CEO, serving as a trusted advisor and a strategic partner. It is a fast-track role, to become an Executive in the company. The Chief of Staff operates as a force multiplier, enabling the Executive team to focus on high-level strategic initiatives by taking on a range of operational and tactical responsibilities. The CoS embodies versatility, adaptability, and exceptional problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Planning: A Chief of Staff plays a pivotal role in strategic planning, working alongside the CEO and ELT members to refine and execute the company's vision, mission, culture and objectives (The “Framing Memo”). They gather and analyze data, assess market trends, and provide insights and recommendations that inform key decision-making processes.
  2. Cross-Functional Collaboration: As the nexus of communication, a CoS fosters collaboration across departments. They work closely with the ELT members, facilitating effective meeting Cadance and Rhythm of Business Meetings, aligning NSOs, and breaking down silos. This collaborative approach enhances efficiency, reduces duplication of efforts, and promotes a cohesive organizational culture.
  3. Project Management: With their ability to manage complex projects and drive execution, CoSs oversee critical initiatives and strategic projects within the company. They define project objectives, establish timelines, coordinate stakeholders, and monitor progress to ensure successful outcomes.
  4. Change Management: In the dynamic tech industry, change is constant. A Chief of Staff facilitates organizational change, together with the CHRO, by driving initiatives such as mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, or cultural transformations. They support Executives through periods of change, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption to business operations.
  5. CEO Support and clearing house: By partnering closely with the CEO, a Chief of Staff acts as an extension of their capabilities. They provide strategic guidance and act as a sounding board for ideas. This support enables the CEO to focus on critical strategic decisions and external engagements.
  6. Enhanced Data/ Fact driven Decision Making: A CoS brings valuable insights and analysis to the leadership team, enabling data-driven decision making. By distilling complex information and presenting it in a concise and actionable manner, they help leaders make informed choices with greater speed and accuracy. They are responsible for providing the same visibility to board, XLT and Staff All hands.
  7. ELT Voice in the Industry: cultivating a strong voice in the industry and establishing ELT as respected and influential CxO. Collaborate with the CMO - through Thought Leadership, Visibility and Networking, transparent communication, Community Engagement and Media presence.
