Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant assists with the maintenance of timely and accurate accounting records for the laboratory. Maintain various ledgers and journals; provide Management with operating results and financial reports. Review related information to evaluate results and communicate findings to Management.
Responsibilities:
• Prepares monthly journal entries and enter in Lawson.
• Reviews General Ledger and other reports for variances at month end and analyze cause for variances.
• Assist with running monthly responsibility summaries, send to department manager and analyze cause for variances.
• Prepares any A/R invoicing done through the Finance department.
• Manages the maintenance of the property, plant and equipment records of all laboratory assets.
• Responsible for recording daily cash transactions, including bank reconciliations.
• Supports the Accounts Payable function with vendor maintenance, invoice coding and/or invoice approval.
• Assists with annual budget process by creating files, uploading into Lawson and verifying data.
• Assists with preparing for audits from external and internal auditors.
• Continually challenge present and proposed systems and innovate new ones.
• Utilizes and program various reports via the use of programming applications, including Lawson Financial systems, Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Completes new employee safety training and the training required for specific duties.
• Complies with all company, departmental and regulatory policies and procedures.
• Assists with other projects and assignments as requested.
Qualifications:
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and/or Finance with minimum of one to two years Accounting experience preferred; or equivalent work experience.
• Attention to detail and good analytical skills.
• Independent judgment and good reasoning ability.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
Physical and Safety Demands:

• Complete required safety training and health evaluations promptly.
• No expected exposure to biohazardous substances or hazardous chemicals.
• Comply with all PPE requirements when in laboratories or designated biohazard areas.
• Identify and respond to safety hazards; promote a culture of safety awareness.
• Possess visual acuity and hand-finger dexterity for extended computer use.
• Able to sit at a computer workstation for prolonged periods.
• Demonstrate sound reasoning and exercise independent judgment.
• Meet deadlines and follow established timetables.
• Communicate effectively and work well with others.
• Remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
