Job Summary
Reporting to the Office of Career Advancement, the Program Director, Careers in Business and Entrepreneurship will support student advising and career programming for students pursuing a broad range of business and start-up careers. A successful Program Director will excel in independent decision-making and program development with minimal supervision. This team member will have sole responsibility for key elements of University of Chicago’s entrepreneurship and business curriculum.
This position will play a key role in supporting UChicago’s new entrepreneurship cohort and mentorship program, the Careers in Entrepreneurship employer portfolio, the College New Venture Challenge, and partnerships with Registered Student Organizations (RSOs). This position will also build and steward key relationships with the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Additionally, this position will take a leadership role in managing career & professional development support for Transfer Students and students recently returning from leave of absence.
Responsibilities
- Serves as career adviser for a cohort of 1st – 4th year students in the undergraduate College including Entrepreneurship cohort members, as well as Economics majors and other business-focused students. Engages in proactive communication and engagement to support career development and success in securing internships and full-time jobs. Supports Career Advancement department-wide advising assignments for all staff members for the Business team.
- Manages the process to ensure smooth transition for students returning back from leave of absence including advising assignments, programming, communication, and engaging with other departments in the College.
- Manages the Business team’s programming calendar (120+ workshops and events) for the academic year and operational logistics, including weekly meeting agendas, monitoring advising appointment demand, and data management.
- Uses industry and company knowledge to provide targeted, outcomes-driven guidance and support. Identifies and sources job and internship opportunities that match student career interests. Serves as a resource to team members in area of expertise.
- Communicates frequently with students to share opportunities and help them stay on track for success.
- Conducts mock interviews, reviews resumes and cover letters, and coordinates other interview related programming in both individual and group settings.
- Uses knowledge of both internal and external best practices to develop program strategy and oversee management of both Careers in Entrepreneurship and Corporate curricula, designed to prepare 1000+ students for a successful career in business, start-ups, venture capital, and corporate careers and support student engagement and recruiting outcomes.
- Plans, designs and executes workshops and employer site visits, virtual or on-site, as relevant. Leverages virtual technology to provide innovative programs and fosters student engagement and satisfaction.
- Manages program budget.
- Maintains portfolio of employers for the Careers in Entrepreneurship Program that lead to successful internship recruiting for students. Serves as primary point of contact for all business research Metcalf placements with Chicago Boo
