About the role

Chemonics International is seeking a Sr. Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The Sr. Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion sets and leads Chemonics’ global diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategy to ensure it is integrated into the fabric of Chemonics culture, values, and business model. The Sr. Director will work with global stakeholders throughout the organization to create and deliver initiatives designed to further a culture of access, belonging, and connection (ABC) and ensure the long-term sustainability of the program’s efforts. The Sr. Director will be a champion for ABC and successfully build and maintain relationships with global leaders to design and execute programing to scale our efforts globally. The Sr. Director develops corporate policy, ensuring alignment with the organization’s business strategy in the corporate office and in global offices, building the enabling environment, including tools and resources, to ensure DEI continues to be a core capability for staff within the company. This role requires on-site work in our Washington, DC office location as part of our hybrid, flexible work structure. Responsibilities:

  • Oversees Chemonics’ global DEI strategy focused on equitable access to knowledge, opportunities, and information, recognizing the unique experiences and contributions of our global workforce, and fostering meaningful connections across teams worldwide. Continues to refine strategy over time based on evidence-based learning, analysis, and assessments
  • Partners with the DEI ecosystem, which includes executive leadership, an employee council, employee resource groups, and designated focal points across the enterprise to implement DE&I activities, programs, policies, and metrics that will foster an environment of inclusion and equity to attract, retain, and develop a diverse workforce
  • Provides strategic direction, goal setting, and guidance to the corporate DEI team, DEI Employee Council, and Employee Resource Groups
  • Supports stakeholders in developing tools and programs to make corporate progress in promoting a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace through the analysis of various internal and external data
  • Develops and maintains work resources, including job aids and templates for people leaders and managers that support the promotion of ABC in staff management and professional development
  • Develops tools and resources, including training materials, to ensure DEI continues to be a core capability for staff within the company, and for the attraction and retention of a diverse workforce
  • Develops a streamlined annual DEI work plan and budget with measurable outcomes. Oversees implementation of work plan and monitor's budget
  • Works with the communications teams to develop and implement a DEI internal and external communication and branding strategy, including events, social media, and the maintenance of an external web presence
  • Represents Chemonics as a subject matter expert on workplace DEI-related issues at industry conferences, learning events and business meetings
  • Promotes staff development through coaching, mentoring, and facilitating professional growth opportunities
  • Leads and/or participates in new business opportunities, contributing to successful proposal development, and ensures new business efforts follow Chemonics’ values, ethics, standards, and best practices
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred
  • Professional DEI certification preferred
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience, including significant experience in designing and implementing corporate, similarly sized DEI programs and activities
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory and/or team management experience
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of DEI best practices, trends and concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate diverse cultural landscapes to build inclusive environments
  • Experience in global sustainable development strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate potentially difficult or challenging conversations and be resilient
  • Shows a committed and proactive approach to DEI and to their own personal development in this area
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely both ora
