Summer Camp jobs with the Ann Arbor Y offer invaluable skill-building, leadership training, and enrichment opportunities in a fun high energy environment. Camp staff assist and lead groups of campers in various camp programs and activities each day. Camp staff are responsible for the general safety, development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in their group. Camp Staff will provide high quality educational and recreational experiences for participants that focus on the Y's core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Our staff are the backbone of our summer programs here at the Y. We pride ourselves on giving staff an incredible amount of support during training and throughout the summer. Requirements

What qualifications do I need to have in order to be a Camp Coordinator?

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Minimum of 2 years of college completed in a related field is preferred.
  • Must have minimum of 2 years’ experience in working with children.
  • Experience hiring, training & supervising staff is preferred.
  • The incumbent must demonstrate creativity, enthusiasm and dedication.
  • Incumbent must have experience working with youth in a group setting, and creating and implementing lesson plans.
  • Additionally, s/he should possess the skills necessary to provide safe, appropriate and fun activities.
  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified prior to employment.
  • Ability to communicate and listen effectively as well as a willingness to learn.
  • Must be able to learn and use YMCA specific software within 30 days of employment. Must be capable of using basic Microsoft Office software.
  • Understanding of YMCA mission and cause is required. An ability to demonstrate YMCA cause within program setting is an advantage.

What qualifications do I need to have in order to be an Inclusion Specialist?

  • This position requires a desire to work with children.
  • Must be 21 years of age and a positive role model for children.
  • High school degree or equivalent is required.
  • At least two (2) years of undergraduate work in youth development, psychology, social work, education or a related field is required. Evidence of work towards a graduate degree is preferred. 
  • At least 1-year experience in camp or classroom management with youth ages 5-14 years old is required. 
  • At least 6 months experience working with children with special needs is preferred. 
  • Demonstrated communication, (verbal or written), organization, creative problem solving, and human relations skills. 
  • Multi-lingual ability is preferred.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain one by the beginning of camp, is required.

What qualifications do I need to have in order to be a Lead?

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must have 1-year experience in working with children.
  • Must demonstrate creativity, enthusiasm and dedication.
  • Must have experience working with youth in a group setting, and creating and implementing lesson plans.
  • Additionally, s/he should possess the skills necessary to provide safe, appropriate and fun activities.
  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified prior to the beginning of camp*
  • Experience in area of specialty is required.
  • Multilingual ability is preferred.

What qualifications do I need to have in order to be a Counselor?

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must have 1-year experience in working with children.
  • Must demonstrate creativity, enthusiasm and dedication.
  • Must have experience working with youth in a group set
