Retiree Communications Specialist

Job Summary:
With a 140-year history and a network of thousands of retirees in Georgia and beyond, Georgia Power appreciates the role retired employees played in building the company and recognizes the importance of continued engagement with our retiree community. The Retiree Communications Specialist will be responsible for developing and executing communication strategies that not only engage retirees, but build and grow a network of brand ambassadors to help protect and enhance the company’s reputation in communities across the state.
This role will ensure that retirees remain connected to the company and are informed about relevant news and updates, benefits, and opportunities. The Retiree Communications Specialist will work closely with other internal teams to align messaging and support the overall retiree engagement strategy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in communications, public relations, community relations, marketing, HR communications, newsletter/website/blog development, or a similar role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with content management systems.
- Experience with event planning and coordination is a plus.
- Understanding of the Southern Company system, culture and retiree programs is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with other internal organizations to get out into the community and meet with retirees, proactively cultivating and mining for exceptional retiree stories.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communication plan tailored to the needs of Gerogia Power retirees.
- Create engaging content for various communication channels, including the Keeping Current monthly newsletter (spotlighting what retirees are doing in their communities and keys to a successful career), email updates, social media, and the retiree page on GeorgiaPower.com.
- Share important messaging with the retiree community to keep them informed about company news, benefits updates, and other relevant information.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage retiree events, webinars, and other engagement activities to foster a sense of community and connection among retirees.
- Organize activities and initiatives that engage employees and retirees, promoting a culture of inclusion and involvement.
- Serve as a main point of contact for retiree inquiries, providing timely and accurate information.
- Collaborate with HR, Regulatory Affairs, Region External Affairs, and other internal teams to ensure consistent and accurate messaging.
- Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of communication strategies and adjust plans as needed.
- Maintain an up-to-date database of retiree contact information and preferences.
- Gather feedback from retirees to continuously improve communication efforts and address their needs.
- Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in retiree communications.
