IPG is focused on developing next-generation products & processes based on IPG's state-of- the- art lasers. The Laser Applications Intern is responsible for working as a team member in the lab to support the development of laser welding and/or Laser cleaning processes. The successful candidate must have the ability to learn new skills quickly and follow established company practices.
Duties:
- Support applications team in Davenport, IA with development of new laser welding and Laser cleaning Manufacturing processes for customers
- Operate robotic machines; execute test plans and or DOE’s
- Cut, polish, and analyze Weld cross sections and analyze test
- Complete summer internship project on topic of interest to IPG
- Prepare reports and presentations summarizing work.

Requirements
Experience Desired:
- Enrolled in an engineering degree or a technical school program; Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology preferred
- Familiarity with metallographic equipment for cutting, polishing and measuring of weld specimens
- Knowledge of basic welding principles and practices
- Experience with MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Personal Requirements:
- Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills required for interaction within group and other departments
- Results-oriented, with ability to multitask
- Aptitude to learn new systems and technologies
- Ability to maintain professional demeanor at all times
- Attention to detail
- Reliable transportation
