Job Description

The Vice President/Deputy Compliance Officer is responsible for providing strategic and legal guidance regarding Western Digital’s compliance program. This includes leading and overseeing the Company’s Global Import and Export Compliance, Antibribery and Anticorruption (ABAC), IP Compliance, and  Data Analytics  within the Ethics and Compliance department.

This broad role ensures enterprise-wide compliance with Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Office of Foreign Asset Controls (OFAC) regulations and programs, economic and trade sanctions programs, Trade Agreement Act (TAA), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), UK Bribery Act (UKBA), Defend Trade Secrets Act (DTSA), other applicable trade, corruption and trade secret laws and regulations in countries where Western Digital operates, and WDC’s Global Code of Conduct. The Vice President/Deputy Compliance Officer will drive implementation of third-party risk management controls within procurement and sales business processes, lead the ABAC team in managing risk-based diligence processes for third parties and overseeing conflicts of interest disclosure processes, advise the Company on distributor channel compliance and technology/trade secret solutions, and partner with many high-level stakeholders in the Company to provide guidance on new and emerging trade compliance regulations. To support the above objectives, the Vice President/Deputy Compliance Officer will lead global teams that implement and act upon compliance risk assessments, design and deliver global training and communications  to drive and sustain a strong culture of compliance, use data analytics to ensure compliance through monitoring and testing and provide budget and other day-to-day operational support to subject matter experts within the Ethics and Compliance function.

Successful candidate must demonstrate their ability to:

  • Direct the creation and maintenance of effective compliance policies and guidelines;
  • Develop and implement a data-driven compliance monitoring capability based on data analytics applied to enterprise level Company data sources;
  • Provide clear and timely guidance and advice to ensure WDC and its subsidiaries, affiliates, and partners comply fully with all applicable compliance laws and regulations, including the EAR, OFAC and other sanctions programs, TAA, CBP, FCPA, UKBA, DTSA and other U.S. and international regulations;
  • Advise and lead on drafting of strategic export licenses and other regulatory filings;
  • Monitor legal, regulatory, and trade developments that impact WDC’s business and deliver clear and timely legal guidance to mitigate impacts;
  • Develop and deliver ABAC, IP and execute risk-based  trade compliance trainings and communications;
  • Collaborate with various business functions (including colleagues in Internal Audit, Legal, Finance/Tax, HR, Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain, Marketing and Sales, Corporate Strategy) to understand their business priorities and build integrated, upstream and forward-looking compliance processes;
  • Lead projects to enhance compliance efficiency and value contribution;
  • Lead the development of specific compliance risk roadmap and strategic planning; and
  • Promote a global and enterprise-wide business culture of compliance and ethics and conduct other compliance activities.
