SUMMARY
We are excited to invite a highly motivated and solutions-oriented Utility and Sustainability Analyst to join our team. This individual will take full ownership of utility billing, energy data management, and sustainability performance across our multifamily portfolio. Success in this role requires not only a strong analytical foundation and deep understanding of utility processes, but also the critical thinking to navigate ESG reporting requirements, proactively identify challenges, and drive innovative solutions.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUSTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Take ownership of all utility and sustainability operations, ensuring all processes are efficient, accurate, and aligned with company and client goals.
- Lead utility onboarding efforts for acquisitions and management transitions, collaborating closely with internal stakeholders and external providers.
- Manage the full lifecycle of utility accounts: setup, closure, and transfer, ensuring no disruption to service or reporting.
- Oversee utility billing, invoice processing, and resolution of discrepancies to support timely and accurate cost recovery.
- Serve as the primary liaison for utility providers, sustainability consultants, and regulatory agencies.
- Interpret and complete ESG reporting received from clients, applying analytical judgment and project oversight to ensure data integrity and actionable insights.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with municipal benchmarking mandates and sustainability reporting obligations for designated assets.
- Review all utility billbacks to the community to ensure accuracy, compliance, and that revenue is fully optimized.
- Act as the internal subject matter expert on utility systems and sustainability processes, providing support and training to site and corporate teams.
- Develop and deliver recurring reports on utility performance metrics to Operations, Asset Management, and other departments.
- Drive the utility budgeting process by preparing annual forecasts and identifying areas of opportunity or risk.
- Partner with IT and third-party platforms to maintain clean, consistent data flow across systems, enhancing reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Maintain a proactive mindset, managing multiple concurrent responsibilities and ensuring that no utility- or sustainability-related task is overlooked or delayed.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in utility management, energy/sustainability programs, or a similar role within property management or real estate.
- Demonstrated ability to critically analyze ESG data and reporting requirements to determine optimal strategies and execution plans.
- Proven success in managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders, timelines, and deliverables.
- Strong financial acumen and a data-driven approach to identifying operational efficiencies and cost recovery opportunities.
