The Position:
GameChanger's Core Services Team enables GameChanger engineers to deliver great products on a secure, stable, and scalable platform by delivering libraries and frameworks to make feature development more autonomous and efficient. This empowered, fully remote team works collaboratively with other platform and software engineering teams and engineering leaders to gather feedback, review designs, and proactively improve the back-end libraries, patterns, and practices that product engineering builds upon. You'll provide the vision, priorities, and guide daily work for the team by gathering feedback from engineers and collaborating with other engineering managers and product managers. You will be a leader, a mentor, and occasional hands-on developer or solutions architect. You will report into our Director of Platform Engineering.
What You'll Do:
Guide and drive the strategy, roadmap definition, prioritization, execution, and team building for the team.
Work with other engineering teams and leaders to gather internal customer feedback and use it to influence the direction for the team.
Develop core architectural components and frameworks to make feature delivery faster, more reliable, and scalable. Examples include internal SDKs, eventing systems, routing patterns, deferred work (queue) libraries, and other core concepts.
Empower developers by refactoring backend systems for greater autonomy, enforcing patterns with linting rules, and improving observability, resiliency, and the developer experience of our back-end TypeScript systems.
Work with the DevOps/Infrastructure and Mobile App Platform teams to manage a scalable and resilient API that handles billions of API requests and events per day.
Promote responsible engineering practices across the whole engineering organization.
Help engineers contribute at the highest level and serve our customers while gaining technical breadth and depth, improve judgment, and develop into tomorrow's leaders.
Work with leadership peers to refine and improve our innovative engineering culture.
Participate in an occasional on-call rotation with the team.
Who You Are:
People management background.
5+ years of working and leading an engineering team, including as a technical lead/architect.
Experience building and operating large-scale, highly-available, observable, and secure distributed systems
Customer empathy for internal and external customers.
Experience coding in a higher-level language such as TypeScript/Node is beneficial.
Knowledgeable about AWS services, patterns and best practices for resiliency, scalability, and security.
