Position Summary
The Quality Control Inspector Lead is responsible for overseeing the inspection department and ensuring that cable and wire products meet all quality standards, specifications, and regulations. This includes performing visual inspections, dimensional measurements, training and leading other inspectors, and coordinating with the Operations Manager to align inspection activities with production needs.
This role requires a detail-oriented, results-driven individual with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The QC Inspector Lead must be flexible, proactive, and an effective communicator who can collaborate across departments to drive quality improvements.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification preferred.
- IPC/WHMA-A-610 or 620 certification preferred.
Experience:
- 1+ year of experience in quality control, preferably in the cable and wire manufacturing industry.
- Experience with visual inspection and dimensional measurement.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of IPC 610 and 620, ability to read and understand customer requirements and simple customer assembly drawings
- Extensive knowledge of components, connectors, terminals and mating connectors for fixture construction
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Office and Adobe.
Skills:
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and engineering drawings, use of multi-meter, complex test equipment, force gages and calipers
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English
- Must be able to recognize discrepancies on drawings and in customer requirements and bring them to the attention of leads, supervisors and/or management
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the inspection of materials, components, and final products to ensure they meet quality standards.
- Perform visual inspections of cable and wire products to identify defects.
- Coordinate inspections with the Production Supervisor and Quality Engineering Supervisor to ensure production and quality requirements are met.
- Measure the dimensions of cable and wire products to verify compliance with specifications.
- Document the results of all inspections and tests.
- Identify and report unusual or non-conforming documentation, materials, conditions, or products to the Quality Engineering Supervisor.
- Conduct AS9102 First Article Inspections (FAIs).
- Handle customer source requests and compile other required quality deliverables.
- Oversee and provide training for inspectors.
- Assist the Production Supervisor with “shipping paper requests” for packing slips and Certificates of Conformance (C of C’s).
- Collaborate with internal personnel and departments to communicate and resolve quality issues.
- Create, update, compile, save, and maintain documentation in the internal database.
- Support continuous improvement efforts as needed.
- Comply with company policies and the quality management system.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace that minimizes waste and maximizes productivity by following the 5S principles: sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain.
Other responsibilities, initiatives and ad-hoc projects as required.
Internal and External Relationships
Internal: Works closely with the Quality Engineering Supervisor, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Account Management teams to ensure product quality and process efficiency. Collaborates with production staff to identify and resolve quality issues.
External: Interacts with customers and suppliers as needed to address quality concerns, ensure compliance with specifications, and support continuous improvement initiatives. May communicate with third-party testing agencies when required.
