About the Role:
This position will manage the production specimen prep Machine Shop and Mechanical Testing area in support of Manufacturing, Quality, Sales and Marketing
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Management, Science, or Engineering
Experience: Five years of management experience in Testing or Quality
Areas of Knowledge: Quality Systems, Industrial Safety, Nadcap, Metallography, Machining of Test Specimens and Audits.
Skills: Leadership, organizational skills, communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, prioritizing, and technical expertise in testing and machining.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Safety; responsible for safety performance, safety auditing and continual improvement with quality initiatives (PPE/JAS).
- Periodic review of queues for manufacturing, quality and engineering work; prioritize as needed. Develop specific plans for capacity issues through Cap Ex and developing outside capability.
- Initiate quality improvements for Labs to address obsolete equipment, optimization of practices. Work closely on projects with the Director of Lab Services.
- Create a culture of individual growth and cross training for maximum efficiency.
- Retain records and archive per SOP and external standards.
- Lead Improvement program for the R43 Labs.
- Facilitate all round robin testing programs, as needed.
- Provide a monthly/quarterly report of Lab activity for each area.
- Take responsibility for Nadcap and ASTM voting, SOP development to Nadcap standards, audit and response to findings.
- Develop improved practices for metallographic evaluation to customer specifications and develop in-plant failure analysis in R43. Develop increased capability for photomicrographs and photographs in the Lab to avoid backlog at Technology.
- Coordinate PM and Calibration activity for the Labs.
- Provide technical direction to meet increasingly intense Nadcap accreditation requirements.
- Coordinate long term plan for improvement and growth of the test areas to reduce capacity and obsolescence issues.
- Develop R43 Met Lab to oversee basic failure analysis related to Production.
- Develop Met lab capabilities for photomicrographs, macro photos and improved metallurgical processes to accurately evaluate samples.
- Troubleshoot all areas of testing and metallography looking for improvement opportunities.
- Develop a Lab Manual incorporating ASTM and other test requirements.
- Continuously look for improvements to Equipment and Techniques to keep the Lab competition with similar independent Labs and Captive Labs.
- Assist with QTC or other LIMS systems
