About the role

Description

OpenDor Media is looking for a dynamic, self-motivated, experienced educator who is passionate about engaging students of diverse backgrounds in conversations around the Israeli-Palestinian story, antisemitism, Jewish history, courageous conversations, and media literacy.

This person will serve as a senior educator for our newest division, ConnectED. At ConnectED, our goal is to enhance literacy around the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, antisemitism and the Holocaust, and Jewish history; equip students with skills in media literacy and courageous conversations; and foster empathy and understanding across diverse perspectives. We work with independent and public schools, grades 6-12.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned educator, curriculum developer, and relationships manager, enthusiastic about helping educators utilize our resources to engage students in these important subjects. The Senior Educator reports to the Director of Education and will be a key member of our team. This is a full-time remote position for someone based in New York or New Jersey. 

As the Senior Educator, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the educational experiences of students and faculty and building and maintaining trusted relationships with school leaders, promoting critical thinking and respectful dialogue on complex issues. This is a remote position with required in-person teaching and program facilitation at schools in the tri-state area as well as occasional traveling to schools in other states.

Requirements

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop curriculum to accompany ConnectED videos, geared toward diverse student and faculty audiences. 
  • Modify and adapt curriculum from other sources to be suitable for the ConnectED audience.
  • Create decks for school programs and webinars.
  • Meet with faculty at ConnectED partner schools and/or public schools to support their implementation of the resources, including 1-on-1 coaching, curriculum support, and professional development sessions.
  • Present and teach in-person at ConnectED schools in New York, New Jersey, and across the U.S. and Canada as needed, including meeting with relevant administrators to plan sessions. Travel to other cities will be required an average of once per month.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for administrators at approximately 10 ConnectED partner schools, building strong, trusted relationships.
  • Meet regularly with school leaders to understand their needs, offer strategic support, and identify opportunities for meaningful engagement.
  • Attend school programs in-person locally or virtually to ensure a smooth execution and represent ConnectED as needed.
  • Present or attend educational conferences and events as needed.
  • As a key member of the ConnectED team, support the team as needed.

What You Have:

  • Educational Expertise: Experienced educator with a minimum of 7 years of relevant classroom experience, specializing in education of our core subjects.
  • Curriculum Development: Expertise in designing and implementing curriculum and instructional strategies for grades 6-12. Strong ability to adapt curriculum to diverse educational environments and student needs.
  • Subject Matter Knowledge: Passionate and knowledgeable about our core subject areas: Israeli-Palestinian story, antisemitism, Jewish history, courageous conversations, and media literacy.
  • Strong Facilitation Skills: Experience facilitating discussions on sensitive or complex topics in educational settings.
  • Curricular Models: Familiarity with different curricular frameworks, such as Understanding By Design (UbD) and Project-Based Learning (PBL).
  • Secular Experience: Personal and professional experience in the secular world, providing a well-rounded perspective.
  • Mission Alignment: Belief in our educational approach of nuance, complexity, empathy, and equipping students with skills for respectful dialogue.
  • Collaborative Team Player: Excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing multiple priorities.
  • Tech Savviness: Pardot, WordPress, Salesforce, and Google Suite knowledge is a plus but not necessarily required.
  • Relationship Management Experience: Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with influential stakeholders, ensuring high levels of engagement and satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of Independent Schools: Experience in K-12 education, school leadership, or working within educational organizations is preferred but
