Position Summary:

CT State Norwalk relies in part for the funding of programs and operations on funds provided by grants and gifts from government agencies, and foundations. Norwalk Campus maintains a high level of visibility in the community through its campus foundation, engagement with community members and leaders, and a comprehensive marketing program.

The Director of Institutional Advancement manages a comprehensive program to locate sources of funds, to prepare grant requests, to develop long term relationships with donor organizations and individuals, to solicit and to manage funds from these sources.

The advancement function includes responsibility for corporate, community and public relations, events management, grant development and administration, alumni and constituent relations efforts, stewardship, and advancement services.

In collaboration with the Campus CEO, the Director of Advancement will serve as the primary liaison to the campus foundation and coordinates the mutual support required for the campus’ and foundation’s success.

Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Campus Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Institutional Advancement is responsible for Identifying and developing funding sources, cultivating and soliciting voluntary fund sources through effective performance in these essential duties:

  • Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies
  • Service on assigned committees and task forces
  • Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings.

In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings.  These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriately relevant field together with five (5) or more years of experience as an advancement professional, preferably in higher education or similar complex environment. Or, Bachelor’s degree, together with five (5) or more years of experience serving as an organization’s representative in the community and building strategic relationships with local and state government leaders, community groups, business and corporate partners and grantors. Or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.
