Job Summary
The Population Health Insights Analyst partners with business and clinical teams to transform healthcare data into critical information and actionable insights that drive strategic decisions and improve population health outcomes. This role combines analytical expertise, technical proficiency, and a strong storytelling mindset to uncover the narrative within complex datasets and communicate findings with clarity and impact.
Working collaboratively with other Business Intelligence Developers, Data Engineers, and Data Scientists, the analyst develops reporting and analytic solutions using primary source data such as electronic health records and claims. They design, configure, and maintain dashboards and applications that support exploration, analysis, and integration with other systems. With a strong understanding of healthcare workflows and data architecture, they validate data accuracy, ensure adherence to quality standards, and translate business requirements into technical specifications.
A core responsibility of this role is storytelling through data—connecting the dots, surfacing meaningful patterns, and crafting compelling narratives that resonate with stakeholders. The analyst promotes data literacy by educating users on how to interpret and apply insights, empowering them to make informed decisions. Operating with minimal supervision, they are accountable for the full lifecycle of insight generation—from data refinement and validation to visualization and narrative development—always striving to go beyond the obvious to deliver meaningful impact.
Essential Functions
- Create visual design solutions and easy-to-understand reports and dashboards that deliver insights.
- Analyzes, designs, codes, configures, tests, debugs, deploys, documents and maintains reporting assets.
- Utilizes appropriate methodologies for collecting, analyzing, and presenting data and information by making use of basic BI reporting tools.
- Works with internal/external team(s) to define necessary information and create solutions based on requirements.
- Works with Sr. and Lead Analysts to ensure that processes and services are continuously monitored for data accuracy.
- With minimal assistance, translates and documents business program needs into a technical solution using visuals and creating data sources, metrics, and automation. Visuals, data sources, and automation will be created from electronic health record (EHR) reporting tools and databases, (ie Clarity, Caboodle, Epic Registries, Epic Extract Framework, Custom Radar SQL metrics, Data Links, and Predictive Model configuration), cloud reporting systems (ie Snowflake), and other EHR agnostic tools (ie SSIS, GoAnywhere, Tableau, PowerBI, etc.).
- Provides analytics that can turn data into critical information in understanding a business problem.
- Participates in agile ceremonies determining the nature and scope of project activities and processes to be developed or modified, working across teams to communicate development dependencies to accomplish a final solution.
- Works with data engineers and data architects, as the architect designs relational and dimensional data models to verify that the model meets the use cases and aligns with strategic direction.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in business, liberal arts, computer science, application programming, software development, information systems, database administration, mathematics, engineering, or another related field
- At least 2 years of relevant experience
- Knowledge and hands-on experience in data analysis and critical thinking/problem-solving
- Possesses working knowledge of relational database methodologies
- Some understanding of visualization principles and how to tell a story with data – both in static forms such as PowerPoint and Word, as well as, dynamic forms like Tableau.
- Experience with reporting and data visualization tools.
- Proven ability to work in a team setting
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills
- Time management and organizational skills
- Self-directed with an ability to make quality, independent decisions.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines, high volumes, and multiple interruptions.
- Ability to maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality.
Preferred
- Ability to collaborate, openly communicate, and present effectively across multiple entity disciplines, groups, vendors, and stakeholders.
- Experience using SQL
- Experience working with Electronic Health Records like Epic
- Experience working with Agile Methodologies and tools.
