Health, Safety and Nutrition Specialist- Priscilla Pond Flawn Child & Family Laboratory School

Purpose

To maintain all health and safety requirements for the Priscilla Pond Flawn Child and Family Laboratory as mandated by TX Department of Health and Human Services licensing regulations and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintain resource room and storage areas for materials and resources related to children's learning. Inventory, organize, and repair materials as needed. Research and order supplies as needed. Provide an orientation to students and new staff on resource room and storage areas. Lift up to 30 pounds.

• Schedule, plan, prepare, clean up, and supervise snacks for children. Collaborate with families to make snack arrangements for children with special dietary needs. Make shopping lists, purchase food and supplies, use personal vehicle for weekly grocery trips. Maintain an inventory of groceries, consumable supplies, and equipment. Maintain sanitation requirements for food preparation, and keep kitchen clean and well- organized. Supervise annual health and safety inspections.

• Maintain all health and safety requirements as mandated by TX DHHS licensing and NAEYC accreditation standards. Prepare and maintain lists for teachers of children with allergies and special medical needs. Check first aid kits and smoke detectors regularly. Do routine emergency supply/plan checks (e.g., flashlights, evacuation plans, emergency contact cards for children, etc.). Sanitize classrooms, children's bathrooms, common areas, kitchen, and storage areas on a daily basis. Conduct routine safety inspections of the playground. Schedule monthly fire drills and other safety drills as required by licensing. Do laundry and dishes daily. Mop floors regularly. Clean carpets and classroom set of blocks two times per year. Contact facilities services as needed to schedule repairs and housekeeping tasks.

• Substitute for teachers and/or help in classrooms as needed.

• Greet children and parents upon arrival and departure. Assist director with administrative tasks and projects as needed. Answer phones and interface with families and visitors during administrative duties. Manage all tasks related to ProCard use and documentation, including overseeing purchases, completing required paperwork, submitting receipts, and entering charges into DEFINE. Attend all family and school-related events.

• Maintain Food Manager’s certification. Maintain current CPR and First Aid certification. Receive and document 24 hours of professional development training annually, as per TX DHHS licensing guidelines. Complete an annual self-evaluation and meet with the director to discuss strengths and challenges. Identify areas for growth and seek continuing education in those areas. Attend at least one professional conference during the year.

Required Qualifications

• High school graduation or GED.
• Three years of experience working with young children and their families.
• Willingness to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
• Willingness to obtain 24 hours of continuing education as required by licensing.
• Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication, collaboration, and organization skills.
• Willingness to obtain Food Manager’s Certification.
• Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in child development or early childhood education.
• Thorough understanding of current licensing and NAEYC accreditation standards, especially those related to health and safety.
• Experience working in a NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) accredited program.

Salary Range

$37,500+ depending on qualifications
