General Notes

The Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for its 2024-2025 school-wide Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellows Program. We seek to hire up to two creative, enterprising, collaborative, and community-engaged postdoctoral scholars who will conduct independent research on topics that advance our understanding of Earth as a system, while engaging with researchers and faculty across the Jackson School. We welcome applicants with research interests across geosciences disciplines, but we are particularly interested in applicants who seek to work at the interfaces between disciplines, and to understand how research outcomes can address both current and future issues facing societies.

Topics of collaborative study could include, but are not limited to:

  • The confluence of environmental and human health;

  • Water resources and water-energy security;

  • Climate change and environmental extremes;

  • Coastal processes and sea-level change;

  • Energy systems and infrastructure;

  • Subduction zone geodynamics;

  • Computational fluid- and solid-Earth geophysics;

  • Natural hazard modeling and monitoring;

  • Planetary evolution and habitability.

Recipients of this endowed fellowship will join a vibrant community of faculty, research scientists, and post-docs where they are expected to pursue self-directed research in any scientific subfield that complements or expands ongoing programs. Applicants are encouraged to contact research groups across the Jackson School of Geosciences to discuss potential areas of research interest. The appointment is for two years, contingent upon successful performance. The salary is $75,000 per year and appointees are eligible for benefits. The appointment also comes with research support of $10,000 per year and one-time relocation costs of up to $6000. The start date is flexible and can be as early as February 15, 2024.
