The UT Core Networking organization is seeking motivated student workers to join our DevOps team. This role provides an opportunity to contribute to the development and operation of systems that support the university’s Wi-Fi and Ethernet networks, which serve academic, research, and business functions across campus. This position will focus on analyzing and reporting of network telemetry data to support network capacity planning, operations, and troubleshooting.

This position offers hands-on experience with one of the largest university networks in the world. Student workers collaborate directly with full-time Network DevOps staff and engineers, applying concepts learned in coursework to real operational environments. In addition to supporting campus network operations, you will gain experience that can strengthen your future professional pursuits both within the university and broader industry.

Purpose

This position will work with the DevOps team within Enterprise Technology, Core Networking, to analyze network telemetry data for use in network planning and operational decision-making. This role will also involve organizing and preparing data for potential future applications that are still under development.

Required Qualifications

• Current enrollment as a student at The University of Texas at Austin
• Experience or relevant coursework in data analysis and processing using tools such as R or Python
• Experience or relevant coursework in software development using Python or Java

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in Linux-based environments
• Experience with source code management tools such as GitHub
• Experience organizing, labeling, or classifying data for use in ML/AI workflows

Pay

$20+ per hour, depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

• May work around standard office conditions
• Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

Work Shift

• Part-time, 10-19 hours per week, flexible scheduling
• Hybrid work options (on-site and/or remote) available
