PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Under minimal supervision, plans, administers, the University's intercollegiate athletics programs and establishes policies and procedures that achieve the parallel goals of development of quality, competitive athletics teams and support of the individual educational goals of student-athletes. The Director ensures University compliance with applicable National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), athletic conferences and University rules and regulations governing all facets of intercollegiate athletics programs.
The Director supervises a staff of athletic coaches, professional and support personnel, develops and manages operating budgets for the intercollegiate athletics program, and participates in fund-raising activities as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Schedules and contracts for athletic events; oversees employment and direction of athletic coaches; directs publicity, ticket sales, and fundraising; and manages equipment and facilities.
- Ensures overall program compliance with NCAA and conference requirements.
- Directs activities of an intercollegiate athletics organization including all men's and women's sports programs.
- Plans and develops strategies for generating revenues and resources for the University's athletics department while promoting public support for student athletes.
- Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement.
- Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization.
- Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives; recruits, employs, trains, supervises, and evaluates unit staff.
- Oversees and directs facilities usage of all athletic buildings and equipment.
- Represents the University to various institutional divisions as well as externally to the media, prospective student-athletes and their parents, prospective funding agencies and private donors, national athletic regulatory and governance bodies, university alumni, and the general public.
- Articulates philosophy and vision for the future of intercollegiate athletics while providing student-athletes with a sense of pride and leadership.
- Recommends and participates in the development of university policies and procedures; may serve on university planning and policy-making committees.
- Contributes to the overall success of the intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- A Bachelor's degree is required, with an emphasis in a discipline relevant to the multiple tasks and duties expected of the Director. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Seven (7) years of administrative, management, and supervision experience in college athletic facility management, student athletic programming or related field required; community college experience preferred.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required; Banner preferred.
- CPR/First Aid certification required; must be obtained within first three months of employment.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills required.
- Exceptional organization and planning skills and ability to collaborate with others required.
- Ability to work effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community required.
- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Prior experience managing budgets preferred
