The Yahoo Commerce team’s mission is to help our audience of 600M monthly active users discover and make informed decisions about products and services so they can save time and money. We primarily serve audiences who are in their shopping journeys across all Yahoo properties. We work directly with our partners to reach new audiences, gain new users, and drive GMV through leveraging our ecosystem of products and services. 

Responsibilities: 

• Autonomously design scalable, maintainable, secure and reusable strategic solutions

• Understanding business objectives and developing ML models that help to achieve them, along with metrics to track their progress

• Designing, developing, and researching ML systems, models, and schemes

• Training and retraining ML systems and models as needed

• Enriching existing ML frameworks and libraries

• Develop team members through direct mentorship

• Determine estimation, work break down, scoping, design, implementation for mid-to-large scale products, and complex multi-month deliverables with insightful strategic approaches

• Act as primary technical liaison to business teams to translate business needs to work streams and technical solutions

• Lead key team initiatives from start to finish by managing and improving the entire software development life cycle

• Present and communicate across multiple groups to influence decisions, share knowledge, and solve organizational problems

• Collect, analyze and convert data into engineering and business insights

• Work with Business and Product teams to conduct research, and develop systems that support ongoing innovations and discover strategic opportunities

• Work on Commerce ecosystem expansion, delivering against a holistic monetization strategy across numerous verticals

• Responsible for the definition, design, development and timely completion of major new features in current and future products

• Performing code reviews for your peers where you will be learning from and contributing to collaborative working models

• Collaborating with user experience designers, product managers, and other engineers to deliver new products, features, enhancements, platform improvements and bug fixes

• Recommend alternative approaches to solving complex problems and use new technologies to achieve goals

• Prototyping and creating production-ready applications based on generative AI

A Lot About You:

An experienced ML engineer who works well in a cross-functional environment designing and developing world class systems and solutions. You will work directly with engineering peers, data scientists, product managers, and designers to expand our growing catalog of product offerings. You will be directly responsible for designing, scoping, building, maintaining, and iterating on the underlying systems needed to deliver commerce products. Our commerce product platform will integrate seamlessly within our existing ecosystem to continue to deliver results for our partners and further optimize our user experience.

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields. Or equivalent experience

• Significant software development experience in data and ML engineering

• Experience integrating LLM APIs into new or existing software applications

• High proficiency with several of the following; distributed systems, domain driven design, API design, multiple database systems, data engineering, ML engineering, performance tuning, content delivery, multiple languages, and functional / unit / performance testing frameworks

• You are an outstanding software engineer with experience building and maintaining complex software systems and/or web applications

• Degree or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields

• You enjoy working with strong cross-functional and cross-geographical teams of engineers and data scientists, and you are passionate about working with our business and product teams to solve complex problems

• You love coding and experimenting with new technologies
