Position Overview

The Novelis' Lincolnshire team is seeking an Automation Engineer. This position is responsible for identifying new manufacturing technology, determining productivity benchmarks, and participating in the Company’s continuous improvement programs.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for working with vendors and design teams, follow through the build phase, and implementation of this equipment in production before handing it off to the manufacturing team
• Evaluate automated equipment, processes, solve automated equipment, and employee training issues
• Review related manuals, blueprints, & schematic diagrams to determine tasks to be performed
• Provide leadership and direction for all areas of production, including people management, productivity benchmarks, work center performance, and efficiency opportunities
• Drive employee engagement and participation in the Company's continuous improvement programs by promoting teamwork and open and honest communications
• Interact with vendors, customers, contractors, and employees at all levels of the organization; able to make decisions "under fire"
• Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering technology, Automated or Application Engineering and 2+ years’ experience in an industrial manufacturing setting.
• Must possess leadership skills to direct, lead, and develop other personnel to accomplish plant and corporate objectives.
• Demonstrated experience in mechanical and electrical industrial maintenance
• 8 to 10 years of applicable experience in PLC System Automation
• Proven proficiency at Ladder Logic programming, I/O management, and troubleshooting
• Experienced in trouble shooting mechanical systems including pneumatics, tooling issues, measurement feedback systems, and basic design robustness
• Strong working knowledge of purchasing, PLC systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and overall machine design
• Basic understanding of capabilities for controls and servo systems
• Basic understanding of tooling and fixture design
• Must have experience using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) with an emphasize on editing documents.
• Excellent communication skills: the ability to communicate with all levels in the organization.
• Strong project management skills.
• Good mechanical and/or electrical proficiency.
• Experience working in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Good methodical skills for solving equipment and related issues.
• Prepare and/or modify Electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, and graphs.
• Provide technical training to all applicable personnel regarding electrical systems and functions.
• Ability to perform CAD with AutoCad software.
• Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
