About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support our legal team in providing administrative and clerical assistance. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, a keen attention to detail, and a strong understanding of legal terminology and procedures. Responsibilities
- Document Preparation: Draft, proofread, and format legal documents such as contracts, briefs, pleadings, and correspondence.
- Case Management: Maintain case files, ensuring all legal documents and records are accurately organized and up to date.
- Legal Research: Conduct legal research and gather relevant statutes, regulations, and case law to support attorneys in preparing cases.
- Client Interaction: Communicate with clients to obtain information, provide updates, and schedule meetings. Ensure confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Court Filings: Assist in preparing documents for court filings, ensuring compliance with legal procedures and deadlines.
- Calendar Management: Manage calendars and schedule appointments, hearings, and meetings for attorneys. Ensure timely reminders for critical deadlines.
- Billing and Timekeeping: Assist with time entry and preparation of client invoices in compliance with firm policies.
- Administrative Support: Perform general administrative duties such as filing, answering phones, maintaining office supplies, and other clerical tasks as needed.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with attorneys, paralegals, and other legal staff to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
Qualifications
- Experience: At least 3 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar role.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and documents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with legal software (e.g., LexisNexis, Clio, or similar platforms) is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
