The Director, AI Forward Deployed Engineer will lead the design, development, deployment, and ongoing optimization of agentic AI solutions embedded within business functions to address high value use cases and accelerate transformation. This role is responsible for guiding engineering efforts that convert existing processes, products, and services into agentic AI products and intelligent workflows, ensuring solutions are practical, scalable, and aligned with business needs. The ideal candidate combines strong engineering leadership, solution delivery experience, and cross functional collaboration skills to shape technical approaches, oversee implementation, and drive operational performance for deployed AI solutions. Working closely with business stakeholders, product leaders, platform teams, data partners, and technology teams, this role will help ensure agentic AI solutions are effectively integrated into real world environments, deliver measurable outcomes, and continuously improve based on user feedback and operational insights.

Major AccountabilitiesĀ 

  • Lead the design, development, deployment, and support of agentic AI solutions for business specific use cases and workflows.

  • Partner with business stakeholders, product teams, and domain experts to understand requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.

  • Oversee day to day engineering execution for forward deployed AI initiatives, including planning, prioritization, delivery, and operational readiness.

  • Ensure AI solutions are scalable, reliable, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise architecture, engineering standards, and governance requirements.

  • Drive integration of AI solutions with business systems, data sources, and operational processes to enable effective end to end workflows.

  • Monitor solution performance, user feedback, and operational outcomes to identify enhancements, resolve issues, and support continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with platform, data, infrastructure, and security teams to leverage shared capabilities and ensure compliant, efficient deployment.

  • Communicate progress, technical decisions, risks, and business impact to senior leaders and cross functional stakeholders.

Essential Requirements:

  • A Bachelor degree required and advanced degree preferred, ideally in business, engineering, computer science, data science, or a related field.

  • 8 plus years of AI engineering experience, with a strong track record of leading product strategy, roadmap development, and delivery for complex digital, data, or AI enabled products.

  • Demonstrated experience in AI and data driven product environments, including translating business needs into scalable product solutions and partnering closely with technical teams to bring innovative products to market.

  • Strong cross functional leadership skills, with proven ability to collaborate effectively across Engineering, Innovation, Design, Data Science, Commercial, and other business teams to drive alignment and execution.

  • Experience managing and developing product managers or junior product leaders, including coaching, prioritization support, and fostering strong product management practices.

  • Excellent strategic, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to evaluate opportunities, make informed tradeoffs, and clearly communicate product vision, priorities, and outcomes to

The salary for this position is expected to range between $194,600.00

and $361,400.00 annual per year. The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically.
