Job Summary:The Sr Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and managing an organization’s local and wide-area networks (LAN/WAN). They ensure network systems operate efficiently, securely, and meet business requirements. The role involves troubleshooting network issues, optimizing performance, and implementing security measures to protect data and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Design and Implementation: Design, configure, and deploy network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
Network Maintenance: Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and perform regular maintenance, upgrades, and patches to ensure optimal operation.
Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve network issues, including connectivity problems, latency, and hardware/software failures, in a timely manner.
Security Management: Implement and maintain network security protocols, such as firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems, to protect against cyber threats.
Capacity Planning: Analyze network traffic and plan for scalability to meet future demands.
Collaboration: Work with IT teams, vendors, and stakeholders to integrate network solutions with other systems and applications.
Documentation: Create and maintain detailed network diagrams, configurations, and documentation for operational and compliance purposes.
Compliance: Ensure network systems comply with industry standards (e.g., ISO, PCI-DSS) and organizational policies.
Support: Provide technical support and training to end-users and junior IT staff as needed.
Emerging Technologies: Stay updated on network trends and technologies, recommending improvements or upgrades to enhance performance and security.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience: 3-5+ years of experience in network engineering or a related role.
Certifications (preferred):
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Professional (CCNP)
Juniper, Fortinet, PA, or other relevant certifications
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, PA).
Knowledge of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF).
Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark, Nagios).
Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and SD-WAN technologies.
Understanding of cybersecurity principles and tools (e.g., firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS).
