General Summary
The PXP Creative Director, Editorial is responsible for overseeing the growth of the creative side of their respective studio and maintaining the highest standards of creative execution. This position requires business and creative acumen, as well as the ability to lead a team of artists to ensure that they are aligned with PXP’s values, vision, and mission. Leadership qualities will be critical, as the Lead Editor will manage all staff and freelance artists within their studio. They are the creative face of the studio and are responsible for ensuring that everything that goes to clients is of the highest quality.
This role is responsible for driving the business forward by being at the forefront of innovation within the Post Production space. This requires an expert level of understanding about software, technology, efficient pipelines/workflows, and premium creative executions. The Lead Editor is also responsible for partnering with cross-functional partners to ensure a consistent creative vision for all projects that are within their purview.
This person will partner closely with the ECD of Editorial and Motion Design, as well as PXP Leadership and Operational leads within their region, to help build out their offering so that it flourishes at PXP.
Responsibilities
- Come up with creative solutions and ideas, and guide clients through the creative process.
- At times act as an “on the box” Editor if the project requires that.
- Work with the Operational leads of their studio to make sure the correct talent is being put on jobs.
- Oversee hiring for all full-time and freelance studio creative employees to ensure that talent is the right fit creatively and culturally.
- Be the first escalation path for clients when there is a creative issue with work coming from their studio.
- Develop a productive relationship with agency creative and production leadership in their local market so they have an in-depth undertaking of what their local markets are looking for creatively.
- Oversee jobs creatively: ensure that studio talent is briefed properly and understands the creative objectives of their project; give feedback on work during the process on appropriate projects and at appropriate times; be there for studio artists if they need creative support on their project.
- Model the correct approach to the creative process. The Lead Editor should always be reinforcing the responsibility we have to our clients and our craft. Our job is to partner with our clients to achieve their vision, and the Lead Editor must reinforce this daily.
- Actively drive and influence staffers' behavior and actions to ensure that they are aligned with PXP’s values, vision, and mission.
- Lead jobs from pre-pro to delivery, overseeing all assets created by their studio.
- Work with the tech team to oversee and optimize the pipeline of the studio.
- Work closely with Producers to maintain an in-depth understanding of a project's status.
- Accurately predict the timing and associated costs of projects and collaborate on the bidding and negotiation processes.
- Manage all artists to ensure that they are placed in the best position to succeed at their daily tasks.
Location & Commitments
- Full-time role, in-person/in office 3 days per week.
- Travel may be required for production needs.
- Overtime may be required to deliver on client projects and deadlines.
Candidate Requirements
- 10+ years of experience as an Editor. Must have experience working in the commercial space, either in a high-end Post house that specializes in advertising or an internal agency studio.
- 3+ years managing and overseeing teams (this does not have to necessarily be as a Manager, as a Senior Editor who has been leading jobs creatively and overseeing other artists on projects qualifies).
- Expert-level in Premiere Pro.
- Proficient in After Effects, Resolve, Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Must have a dynamic reel with work in either automotive, food/beverage, packaged goods, or beauty.
