We work at the intersection of large-scale engineering and advanced research, shaping how AI enhances the future of commerce.<br/> </p><p><b>About the Role</b></p><p>We’re seeking a <b>Senior AI Engineer</b> who is passionate about creating world-class AI solutions and thrives in collaborative, fast-paced environments. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a highly visible, cross-functional team at the forefront of AI innovation within eBay.</p><p>As a Senior AI Engineer, you’ll collaborate with Software Engineers, Researchers, and Data Engineers across the entire AI lifecycle — from early experimentation and prototyping to deploying production-grade systems that support millions of users globally. You will focus on <b>Generative AI systems</b>, <b>intelligent agents</b>, and the <b>foundational infrastructure</b> that enables these technologies at scale.</p><p></p><h2><b>What you will accomplish</b></h2><ul><li><p><b>Design, build, and optimize</b><span> </span>large-scale Generative AI and agent-based systems that enable intelligent, adaptive, and efficient ecommerce experiences.</p></li><li><p><b>Lead development</b><span> </span>of agent-led user experiences, including systems leveraging task decomposition, tool use, memory, and dynamic planning.</p></li><li><p><b>Advance eBay’s internal GenAI platform</b><span> </span>by developing reusable components, APIs, and frameworks that accelerate the creation of AI-powered applications.</p></li><li><p><b>Monitor and improve</b><span> </span>performance, reliability, and responsible AI usage of models and agents in production.</p></li><li><p><b>Collaborate cross-functionally</b><span> </span>with researchers, data engineers, and designers to bridge experimentation and deployment with measurable business impact.</p></li><li><p><b>Drive innovation and iteration</b><span> </span>through experimentation, peer collaboration, and integration of the latest advances in AI/ML and intelligent agents.<br/> </p></li></ul><h2><b>What you will bring</b></h2><ul><li><p>8+ years in software or machine learning engineering, including 4+ years of experience developing and deploying AI-centric systems.</p></li><li><p>2+ years building<span> </span><b>LLM-based agent systems</b>, autonomous workflows, or multi-agent orchestration.</p></li><li><p>Strong programming skills in<span> </span><b>Java</b><span> </span>(or other JVM languages) and<span> </span><b>Python</b>, with experience using<span> </span><b>PyTorch</b>,<span> </span><b>Transformers</b>, or related ML frameworks.</p></li><li><p>Experience with<span> </span><b>Spring Framework</b>,<span> </span><b>Docker</b>,<span> </span><b>Kubernetes</b>, and<span> </span><b>Big Data</b><span> </span>technologies (Hadoop, Spark).</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated success delivering<span> </span><b>AI products from prototype to production</b>, emphasizing scalability, maintainability, and user impact.</p></li><li><p>Bonus: Experience with<span> </span><b>C++/CUDA</b><span> </span>for performance-critical systems, or familiarity with<span> </span><b>RAG pipelines</b>,<span> </span><b>vector stores</b>, and<span> </span><b>multi-modal models</b>.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><span>Please see the <u><a href="https://jobs.ebayinc.com/us/en/talent-privacy-notice" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Talent Privacy Notice</a></u> for information regarding how eBay handles your personal data collected when you use the eBay Careers website or apply for a job with eBay.</span></p><p></p><p><span>eBay is an equal opportunity employer.
