About the role

The Hydrogen Processing Group at Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking a chemical engineer with a strong background in applied science and engineering. We want a highly motivated individual to work towards creating cutting edge technologies in the field of hydrogen storage. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in an applied science laboratory that supports a production mission.      The Hydrogen Processing Group at SRNL focuses on all aspects of processing hydrogen, including isotope separation, storage, and impurity removal. This group develops new technologies and improves existing technologies to optimize the tritium gas processing systems at the Savannah River Site. Additionally, SRNL is a leader in fusion fuel cycle design, which utilizes the skills of the Hydrogen Processing Group. This position will focus on hydrogen storage technologies.      
  • Lead and contribute to research projects focused on the development of technology for hydrogen isotope gas processing applications.
  • Write research proposals aligned to SRNL's core competencies
  • Design and conduct experiments, and analyze results, 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of scientists and engineers.
  • Contribute to intellectual property development through patent and copyright applications.
  Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field + 2-4 years of post-doctoral experience in an academic or national laboratory environment, or a MS in Chemical Engineering or related field + 3-5 years of experience, or a BS in Chemical Engineering or related field + 4-6 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in applied science.
  • Advanced communication skills involving complicated topics.
  • Works safely with particular attention to quality. Complies with all policies and standards. 
  • For ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required.
