What You’ll Do

Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. is a world leader in Memory, System LSI and LCD technologies. Samsung founded a new advanced research and development lab, MSL (Memory Solutions Lab), at San Jose CA 2012. The vision of MSL is to be the engine of technology inspiration and renovation for Samsung semiconductor. Especially, MSL is tackling a variety of challenging issues in data center, storage, new memory, server, and software infrastructure for Cloud, Fog, and Edge computing. MSL is operated like a start-up under Samsung umbrella. We are looking for a most passionate senior staff performance engineer who can share our visions and have a journey together.

We are looking for a senior staff memory and storage performance engineer for cutting edge technologies including CXL memory and storage who can performance thorough system performance test, evaluation, and analysis for AI and cloud applications that leverage CXL memory and storage, intelligent storage, and network technologies including CXL memory modules, in-memory/in-storage computing, new SSD architecture, new memory and SSD interface, and so on. The senior staff performance engineer will develop and execute effective performance evaluation and analysis scheme and method design and development that covers a broad spectrum of AI and data center applications and is building technologies and ecosystems surrounding CXL memory, SSD, network, software including application, and services.

  • Responsible for instrumentation of code, measurement, identification of performance bottlenecks in the system, and performance analysis reports
  • Develop, execute, and lead performance measurement, test, and analysis process, technologies, and tools
  • Research and develop effective AI and/or data center applications performance analysis scheme that evaluates innovative Samsung technologies including memory and storage
  • Assess the validity and rigor of new product concepts for ongoing evaluation as appropriate
  • Work with emerging and established memory and storage system stacks to optimize and innovate for new memory and storage technologies
  • Propose changes to memory and storage systems for performance and/or power enhancement
  • Collaborate with development team regarding performance engineering, design, testing, etc.
  • Create new and useful IPs, publish papers at conferences, and generate whitepapers and specification documents with other developers

 

Location: Hybrid with at least 3 days in office in San Jose, CA office location remainder of time to work remotely

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's with 15+ years of experience in computer system performance engineering for performance optimization including Linux systems, AI and/or data center applications, or Masters with 13+ years or PhD with 10+ years in computer system or related technical field preferred
  • Good understanding of computer architecture
  • Experience in and/or good knowledge of computer memory and storage system
  • Track record of innovation and creativity in problem solving
  • CMM (CXL Memory Module) performance engineering experience (optional)
  • A broad knowledge of computer system performance evaluation methodology and tools with an understanding of wide variety of memory and storage technologies and architectures
  • Research and development experience on memory and storage system performance engineering
  • Strong Python or scripting programming language experience to automate performance evaluation and analysis
  • Strong system performance analysis and reporting skill
  • Must be highly motivated with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in a multinational environment and understands how to leverage cultural diversity
