Legal Counsel II-Provider Contracts

About the role

Negotiates, drafts, reviews, and revises contracts, including physician and other provider employment-related agreements, and other legal documents to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations and the business interests of the organization.
Provide education to staff and physicians on provider contracts and related legal topics.

Outstanding oral and written communication skills, legal research, analytical skills, and the ability to distill complex matters into practical and understandable legal advice.  

Balances the needs of competing projects and changing priorities and motivates and drives staff performance. 

Develops templates, processes, and policies to assist in streamlining work flow.  

Manages the contracting process and coordinates participation with other departments as necessary.

Assists in the development of best practices for contract review.  

Advises contract owners and signatories of the financial, operational, and legal risks inherent to the agreement.

Assess proposed business ventures for potential liability and regulatory risk associated with proposed courses of action and future endeavors.

Advise and assist leadership with legal aspects of healthcare mergers and acquisitions.

Supports and works alongside other departments of the organization.

Other duties and special projects as assigned from time to time.

Work Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 7 years' experience with a respected law firm or in-house legal department drafting and managing agreements for the employment/compensation of physicians and other licensed providers required
  • Extensive knowledge of Stark, AKS and FCA laws required, including application of exceptions and safe harbors.
  • Experience in healthcare mergers and acquisitions a plus. 
Licenses/Education:
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree
  • Active Law License, with willingness to obtain a limited certificate of admission to practice law in South Carolina
