 Job Description:

Brown and Caldwell is looking for a senior-level engineer or scientist to join the Site Investigation, Remediation and Solid Waste (SIR/SW) Technical Practice, reporting directly to the SIR/SW National Technology and Innovation Leader. In this role, your primary responsibilities will include innovation and technical solution development, technical project delivery, and supporting Brown and Caldwell’s research and innovation portfolio of projects. The role will also support private sector and municipal treatment projects throughout the U.S., depending on the interest of the candidate. The successful candidate will work on a broad spectrum of projects ranging from PFAS and other emerging contaminant regulatory strategies (including standards support, characterization, and treatment options), environmental site assessments/investigations, technology/alternatives evaluation, design, implementation, remediation/site closure projects, municipal water/wastewater supply and treatment, and water reuse.   

The candidate will also support the Brown and Caldwell research and innovation program. Working directly with the SIR/SW National Technology and Innovation Leader to help grow our academic partnerships, strategize external funding priorities, and drive our existing and future PFAS research investments to success. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a growth-oriented professional consulting firm with multiple offices throughout the U.S.  Candidate will work with and be mentored by strong, nationally recognized, senior technical staff on various projects. Our ideal candidate will have strong verbal/written communication skills, effective client and market engagement, and highly organized problem solver skills. The ideal candidate must be capable of working in a diverse team environment and handling multiple tasks with competing priorities. The candidate can work remotely or out of an established Brown and Caldwell office location; some travel is required.  

  • Apply advanced technical skills and experience to provide innovative solutions to solve environmental problems. 
  • Work with an established team of scientists, engineers, constructors/operators and project managers for the remediation of impacts related to chemical and pharmaceutical production facilities,; solid and hazardous waste disposal facilities; power generating, mining and oil and gas facilities; other active and abandoned/former manufacturing sites, and CERCLA/Superfund, RCRA, and TSCA  Sites; working under the auspices of regulatory agencies. 
  • Develop surface water, sediment, soil, and groundwater remediation strategies to minimize/reduce/eliminate contaminant impacts as well as preparing cost benefit analyses for various remedial alternatives. 
  • Assist in the management and operation of remediation systems including soil excavation, groundwater extraction systems, air sparging/soil vapor extraction (AS/SVE) systems, and many other in-situ and ex-situ treatment options. 
  • Provide senior technical review of documents and PFAS subject matter expert project support. 
  • Drive PFAS research projects to successful completion through regular project meetings. 
  • Develop mutually beneficial research collaborations with external partners. 
  • Assist the Brown and Caldwell Private Sector Business Unit leadership team in identifying new market opportunities and leveraging research investments to serve our clients. 
  • Assist the Brown and Caldwell research leadership team in developing and tracking the return on investment of the firm’s significant research investments across technical sectors and service lines. 
  • Negotiate and coordinate with representatives of Federal, State and Local regulatory agencies, on behalf of our clients to obtain favorable permit conditions. 
  • Assist in the development, preparation, and review of technical documents including investigation work plans, remedial investigation reports, remedial action workplans, feasibility studies, and implementation summary reports.
