Job duties
- Support with computer hardware, software, networks, and data to be used by agency staff.
- Develop, implement, and maintain procedures for the timely and appropriate acquisition of computer hardware and software.
- Develop and enforce guidelines to ensure that software used by blind staff members is compatible with nonvisual access technology.
- Provide technical support and evaluate and solve technical problems in a timely and correct fashion.
- Provide leadership in planning and implementing agency strategies related to nonvisual adaptive technology.
- Oversee the development of procedures to maintain up-to-date technology resources and ensure timely technology acquisitions.
- Establish support systems to keep client technology functional in education and employment.
- Ensure rehabilitation technology specialists stay current, offer timely recommendations, and resolve technical issues effectively.
- Provide leadership to technology specialists and counselors on all aspects regarding technology, advise the agency leadership and supervisors on all aspects related to technology, mentor technology specialists, train staff and clients, and serve as a liaison between NCBVI and other state agencies and business regarding adaptive technology for the blind (should not be expected to be a support to the OCIO, but a liaison).
- Plan and arrange for the technology training needs of agency staff.
- Assure that new and senior staff have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to carry out their job duties by assessing the training needs of all staff.
- Plan and evaluate new staff training as it pertains to technology.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in computer science and three years of related technical and business experience. Two years of related technical and business experience may substitute for the required education on a year-foryear basis. OR Post high school coursework in computer science and four years of related technical and business experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Significant experience working with computer hardware and software in work settings.
- Training and work experience in computer accessibility by the blind and visually impaired, preferred.
- Bachelors or training in computer science or computer management.
- Familiar with ADA and section 508 requirements.
- Familiar with WCAG standards
