About the role

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the SVP, Accounting is a member of the accounting/finance leadership team and has overall responsibility for all aspects of the company’s accounting strategy and operations. The role oversees a team of 25+ spanning corporate accounting, tax, financial reporting, and all aspects of billing and cash collections. Working as a collaborative leader, the SVP is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and fidelity of the company’s financial records while overseeing timely reporting, accounting policies and procedures, and financial controls. S/He will also operate as a key cross-functional partner to the organization to help leadership determine the accounting and tax implications for all material business decisions.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage all areas of operational and technical accounting, international (statutory) accounting, internal controls, and compliance (i.e., Sarbanes-Oxley)
  • Oversee all aspects of corporate tax compliance and reporting including, but not limited to, review of monthly and quarterly tax provisions, tax returns prepared by internal and external preparers
  • Continuously evaluate accounting policies to ensure practices and financial reporting are continuously improving, and to meet current and future requirements
  • Help lead the Company’s financial close process, including preparation of financial statements and management reporting metrics and analysis. Continually evaluate opportunities to drive greater efficiencies and effectiveness in the monthly and quarterly accounting close process while ensuring a balanced workload within the organization
  • Ensure integrity of accounting and financial reporting, including appropriate information systems to maintain disciplined financial planning and control systems to accurately report performance; regularly assessing the need to thoughtfully scale the systems and financial controls in support of future growth for the Company
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for tax preparers, auditors, and third-party consultants.
  • Maintain ultimate ownership of all corporate accounting software systems including, but not limited to, general ledger and various reconciliation solutions. Continually evaluate the adequacy of such systems and recommend new technologies to improve efficiency or streamline operations.
  • Provide senior management oversight to all corporate accounting functions, including the financial closing process of all entities and ensuring completion of all closing activities within the required timeframes.
  • Review complex accounting activities including consolidations, eliminations, and inter-company activities.
  • Provide guidance and expertise on complex financial transactions, recent accounting pronouncements and business development opportunities.
  • Drive ongoing improvement in financial reporting to produce deeper and more valuable insights into business performance, leveraging systems and automation to improve efficiency


Organizational Strategy and Results:

  • Together with the CEO, CFO and executive leadership team, develops the strategy to ensure that the organization has the financial resources needed to achieve its current and future goals, while mitigating financial and operational risk.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with key financial partners including funders, investors, partners, government agencies, consultants, and vendors.
  • Determine accounting and tax implications for all material business decisions.
  • Create and establish yearly financial initiatives and goals that align with the company's plan for growth and expansion. Track and report on the status of the initiatives and goals.

 

Accounting Management and Financial Reporting:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards and regulations in accordance with US GAAP and IFRS.
  • Oversees organizational budgeting, accounting and cash management to ensure accurate reporting, interpretation and analysis of financial
  • Reviews and provides oversight on entity audits and tax returns.
  • Prepares the annual corporate consolidated financial statements
  • Establishes and maintains controls to safeguard assets; documents and recommends improvements to internal financial policies and procedures
  • Develops and completes timely financial statements and report on transactions and/or information requests
  • Manages and monitors the organization’s cash flow and real estate development capital needs
  • Prepare and present monthly budget vs actual reports for properties and ownership entities.
  • Prepare and present weekly cash flow report
