The Health Information Specialist is responsible for working with all aspects of health information including assembling medical records, scanning. deficiency analysis, records release, chart completion, etc. in a manner consistent with NDHC and department policies and procedures.

 This position will be responsible but not limited to:

• Assist with the "thinning" of all medical records per Chart Thinning Policy and guidelines.
• Assist in developing procedures to ensure records are properly competed, coded, signed indexed, etc. before filing.
• Assist Hospice/Palliative Care Staff as needed with patient requests, supply requests, technology issues, etc.
• Monitor incoming faxes and distribute documents to appropriate department and or/medical professional.
• Maintain and process health record requests and subpoena requests in a timely manner and according to policy/procedure.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Associated degree or certification in health information, office/clerical management, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 2-5 years' experience working within a medical records, medical billing, coding, or administrative/clerical position preferred.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) required.
