Reports To: Director of Summer School

Who We Are:

YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School is a tuition-free, public charter high school, with a singular focus on supporting youth aged 17-20 who have been pushed out of traditional schools. During our 1-year alternative program, Youthbuild facilitates a warm, loving culture that uses a variety of structures to build community, such as a restorative-justice approach to discipline, weekly community meetings, and school-wide service projects. Students are empowered to attain their high school diploma and vocational certifications, while receiving unconditional support by the staff around them. The Opportunity:

The Summer School Special Education Teacher serves all students with IEPs attending summer school from July 7, 2025 - August 1, 2025 under the guidance of the Summer School Director. The Summer School Special Education Teacher is dynamic, supportive, and innovative in their support of YouthBuild students with IEPs, ensuring that students have access to curriculum that supports the completion of their graduation requirements.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s Degree strongly preferred.
  • Three to five years’ experience teaching Special Education. 
  • A current PA teaching certificate in Special Education.

Requirements

What You’ll Do:

You will…

  • Collaborate with Summer School teachers to develop and deliver specialized instruction (which may include collaborative planning and push-in instruction) designed to help students achieve personal learning goals.  
  • Develop and implement small group lessons and instruction aligned to IEP goals. 
  • Work with Summer School Student Advisor and Summer School Social Worker to ensure student success. 
  • Track student progress, give frequent actionable feedback to students and communicate student progress to the greater community through Dean’s List. 
  • Complete student progress reports, aligned to their IEP goals, via IEP writer.
  • Work in interdepartmental teams to support the success of students with IEPs as they move through Summer School.
  • Participate in a highly collaborative, fluid school culture that requires strong interpersonal skills and flexibility.
  • Attend a one day training the last week in June to prepare for Summer Programming.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by the Summer School Director or School Principal.

What We Offer You:

  • A competitive hourly rate for Summer School, including a paid preparation period, of $35.00 per hour.
  • 1 hour of sick time per every 40 hours worked.
