The Kitchen Operations (KO) team is responsible for ensuring orders are processed quickly and accurately with a mission to empower customers to get the most out of their kitchen in every scenario.The KDS (Kitchen Display Screen) is the ultimate solution to transform a restaurant's kitchen operations, helps organize and fulfill orders from anywhere. We are set out to revolutionize kitchen workflow, enhance communication, and in turn deliver exceptional customer experiences. Every day, many thousands of servers, bartenders, and chefs use Toast’s KDS to serve millions of guests! Our team strives to make their experience as smooth and efficient. When we do our job well, the restaurant staff can focus on doing what they love: providing great food and service. 

Our KDS is built on an Android, Java/Kotlin, and AWS platform that packages up all of the complexity of restaurant operations into a simple UI that anyone in the restaurant can use. To configure KDS features, users login to our React web UIs.

Our team tackles a mix of technical, product, and UX challenges working through projects like: 

• New app features to support new market segments like drive thru 
• Optimizing the usability of KDS configuration for users 
• Building reporting tools that give insights on accurate prep times and more
• Integrating with hardware like bump bars 

About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

• Lead the end-to-end development of the Android application of our Kitchen Display System, collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and engineers.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of Android developers, ensuring high-quality code, efficient processes, and timely delivery.
• Hands-on code contributions to your team’s projects (60-70% of your time).
• Lead effort estimation sessions and use sound judgment to enable planning of projects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate the KDS application seamlessly with our restaurant management platform, ensuring optimal functionality and user experience.
• Conduct code reviews, mentor junior developers, and foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the team.
• Roll features out to customers, including monitoring for success

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

• 5 years of software development experience, which includes at least 2 years technical leadership experience in the Android domain
• Excellent cross-team communication skills on complex technical topics 
• Proficient in a modern object-oriented programming language such as Java or Kotlin
• Experience developing Android applications
• Fosters a continuous learning environment within the team
• Passionate about solving large scale problems and building great software for customers
• Strong attention to detail
• Enjoys working in a team environment with a shared code-base
• This role can be filled 100% remote in the US or hybrid from any of our US Toast Offices

• Prior people and performance management experience.
• Experience developing microservices in a cloud environment in Java or Kotlin
• Experience with monitoring tools to debug and resolve tough customer issues

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.Pay Range$142,000—$227,000 U
