Accountant

Position Description

The accountant will prepare various accounting worksheets, account analysis, and various other accounting and clerical tasks under the direction of the Assistant Controller.  This position also provides assistance as needed to other members of the Finance team.

Position Requirements

• Bachelors' degree with a focus in finance or accounting;
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, maintain programs, and/or administer on-going projects;
• Minimum of two (2) years of related experience, or a recent college graduate;

Expected Knowledge/Skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Work and Excel;
• Able to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, staff and the public;
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Effectively project a positive public image
• Accurately prepare accounting worksheets and reports
• Perform all tasks in an accurate and timely manner.

General Position Responsibilities

• General knowledge of Accounts Payable to assist the Accounts Payable Clerk including during high volume periods;
• Review P-card transactional report and communicate with cardholders as needed;
• Assist Assistant Controller with monthly closings including journal entries;
• Accumulate monthly amount for Sales Tax and transfer payments to the State as required;
• Reconcile quarterly amounts for hotel/motel tax;
• Review, reconcile, and submit Unclaimed Property to the State;
• Reconcile Petty Cash;
• Reconcile Inventory accounts;
• Work with budget managers on reallocation of expenses as needed;
• Other tasks and projects as assigned.
