Job Description:
The Office of Admissions at Iowa State University is seeking a dynamic and organized Business Administrator III to oversee the day-to-day operational needs of the department. This individual will play a crucial role in managing administrative functions, supervising a small team, and ensuring smooth workflow in a fast-paced, high-energy environment. The ideal candidate will be an adaptable problem solver, capable of handling multiple competing priorities while maintaining a calm and positive demeanor. This role requires expertise in financial management, human resources support, technology management, and project leadership to help drive the strategic priorities of the department.
What you’ll do:
- Manage daily operations, ensuring efficiency and organization.
- Oversee competing tasks, policies, and procedures for systems, communications, and facilities.
- Support hiring, timekeeping, scheduling, and compliance with personnel policies.
- Lead onboarding, training, and hybrid/remote work compliance.
- Manage technology inventory, audits, warranties, and procurement.
- Coordinate recruitment events, communications, and workplace improvements.
- Oversee budgets, expenditures, financial reports, and vendor contracts.
- Supervise administrative staff, providing coaching and performance management.
- Support leadership with scheduling, meetings, travel, and correspondence.
- Represent Admissions in institutional initiatives and student recruitment.

Example of Duties
• Represents the department on business affairs and/or faculty affairs to the institution community.
• Monitors and interprets operational policies and procedures in areas such as information technology, communications, and facilities.
• Develops and prepares budgets and financial reports for grants, general appropriations, endowments, and other funds.
• Establishes financial and operational systems to monitor, control, and verify expenditures and carry out financial analysis.
• Manages day-to-day operational needs of a department.
• May assist with employment business needs such as hiring of students, timekeeping responsibilities, and scheduling.
• May supervise students or a small team.

• Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISU’s mission and department or work unit goals
• Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude
• Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action
• Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices
• Responds to complicated inquiries, provides training, and provides direction to lower-level staff
• May provide supervision for one to two other staff (i.e., leads a small work team)
• May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist
• Provides guidance to students
