Project Overview

We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.
Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.
This position is a full-time role located in the Richland, Washington project office, and works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.
Position Overview:
Responsible for the Waste Treatment Plant (WTP) project within the chemical engineering discipline. Applies broad and diversified knowledge of chemical engineering principles and practices to engineering. Makes decisions independently concerning problems within the chemical engineering discipline on the project. Represents the chemical engineering discipline on the project and with the client to resolve technical questions and as required to coordinate work. Openly communicates with conviction and confidence in all technical and business matters throughout the company. Reviews significant bid summaries, major drawings and staffing estimates and schedules. Requires an extensive knowledge of industry and regulatory codes and standards, and design criteria pertinent to the chemical engineering discipline. Requires a thorough knowledge of Bechtel’s administrative practices and supervisory experience.
Receives supervision and technical guidance from the WTP Manager of Engineering Functions or the NSE Process Chief Engineer. Supervises and provides technical direction to subordinate engineers, scientists, specialists, designers and drafters as assigned. Maintains contacts with client representatives as directed, with suppliers, appropriate field personnel and other disciplines to ensure the coordination of the work within the project or assignment and compliance with Bechtel/client requirements.
Responsibilities:
• Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews engineering work within the chemical engineering discipline on a project or assignment in a global business unit.
• Supervises the day-to-day technical work of chemical engineers, scientists, specialists, designers and drafters.
• Conducts annual performance reviews in accordance with approved procedures and holds career development discussions.
• When assigned, recommends personnel actions such as staff additions, terminations, transfers and salary changes.
