This opportunity resides with Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. From towers to processors, we design, develop, integrate and manage the sensors, systems and other assets necessary to support integrated intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) operations, exploitation and analysis for the Intelligence Community, the military services, geographic and functional combatant commands and DoD agencies.
Essential Job Responsibilities
We are seeking intern candidates who are interested in working with Data Scientists, Software Engineers, and Signal Processing experts to support our work with the Army Research Laboratory in Adelphi, MD. The intern candidate will be a HII employee but report daily to ARL in Adelphi, MD. As an intern, you will contribute to research conducted by the Spectrum Analysis Team, with a focus on custom Software Defined Radio (SDR) sensor systems, Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) designs, and other technical tasks. The interns work directly with senior technical personnel, program managers, and external organizations in the planning, oversight, execution, evaluation, and validation of multiple complex engineering and design projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent + Must be working towards a Bachelor's degree with up to 20% of the required credits completed.
- Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university working towards a Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics fields.
- Minimum grade point average of 3.0 out of 4.0 (unweighted)
- Ability to participate in team-based research and development with close coordination by mentor.
- Ability to communicate orally and in written reports to support peer-reviewed publications.
- Experience with signal and information processing
- Experience with any of the following: C, C++, Python, MATLAB.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis and classification methods/algorithms
- Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance
Preferred Requirements
The ideal candidate should possess some (all not required) combination of the following:
- C/C++, especially with embedded systems.
- MATLAB and/or Python for interactive analysis of very large datasets (multi-GB to TB).
- Experience with FPGA toolsets and FPGA-based design
- Knowledgeable of SDR hardware and development platforms.
- Experience with Raspberry Pi or Nvidia Jetson development
- Proficiency with modern development and documentation toolsets such as Git and Sphinx
- Experience with distributed processing and communications across local and wide-area networks, including web development and complex networking of numerous computing assets.
