POSITION SUMMARY
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining fire trucks, with a focus on American or European made aerials or other complex hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical systems. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for trouble shooting hydraulic, pneumatic and electric systems, working with vendor technical support to solve issues, and self-managing workload and priorities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic systems and electrical Systems on Fire Trucks with a focus on American and European aerial trucks to find root cause of issues.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues related to hydraulics, pneumatics or electronics.
- Builds, installs, and repairs Aerial devices, hydraulic generators, and other complex assemblies or systems.
- Performs minor welding, hydraulic plumbing, crimping, and brazing repairs on fire trucks and components mounted on fire trucks.
- Assists in training and guiding employees on troubleshooting, repairs, and service work on complex assemblies.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the company.
Tools to be utilized:
Hand tools, power tools, grinders, cut off wheels, shear, welders, and tape measure.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA’s): The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience:
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Associate’s degree in mechanics, heavy equipment technician, diesel mechanics, service technician or a related field preferred.
- 3 years of experience working as a mechanic, heavy equipment technician diesel mechanic, service technician, or a related field required.
- 5 years of experience working as a mechanic, heavy equipment technician diesel mechanic, service technician, or a related field preferred.
- Manufacturing experience preferred.

Language:
- Able to read and work from blueprints/spec books.
- Able to read and understand a tape measure accurately.
- Able to follow written and verbal directions.
Math:
- Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
