About the role
Summary:
Advances the Goodwill Mission by delivering operational training on the processes and procedures outlined in the curriculum and assessing the effectiveness of training. Assists in all phases of employee development, including helping to create platforms for career pathways and leadership training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Design and Content Development
- Designing and developing instructor-led, virtual, and e-learning content (e.g., PowerPoint, Articulate, Canva, Adobe Captivate, or similar).
- Managing or administering a Learning Management System (LMS).
- Staying within Palmetto Goodwill brand standards.
- Creates learning content for key areas: core training, leadership, job-specific skills, and employability.
- Research trusted sources to ensure content is accurate and up to date.
- Maintains version control, so the latest training is always available.
- Helps create user-friendly how-to guides and visuals.
- Applies proven learning techniques like storytelling and real-world scenarios.
- Use microlearning to break down information into simple, easy-to-digest pieces.
- Builds interactive elements to help learners practice and apply skills.
- Follows a clear writing process: set objectives, outline, draft, edit, and revise.
- Develops knowledge checks that align with each course’s learning goals.
- Assists with instructional design support within Goodwill Academy (LMS).
- Conducting training needs assessments and creating learning objectives.
- Creating tests, quizzes, and learning evaluations.
- Assists in writing, editing, and updating key documents and training materials.
- Partnering with subject-matter experts (SMEs) to translate technical information into engaging content.
- Leadership Development Support
- Helps design leadership courses focusing on personal, professional growth, and culture alignment.
- Reviews learner feedback and share ideas for improving sessions.
- Provides ongoing support for eLearning experiences.
- Learning System & Program Support
- Helps improve training outcomes using our Learning Management System (Goodwill Academy).
- Works with the Training team to improve how we deliver training through Goodwill.
- Supports system tasks like building courses, scheduling sessions, and uploading content.
- Experience in retail, nonprofit, or service environments.
- Familiarity with ADA-accessible learning design and Section 508 standards.
- Demonstrated ability to measure training effectiveness and report results.
- Project and Calendar Management
- Manage training projects with tight deadlines.
- Help maintain a training project calendar with clear goals and timelines.
- Team Collaboration
- Maintains regular attendance and works well with others across departments.
- Stay up to date with the latest trends in instructional design and eLearning.
- Perform other tasks assigned by the team leader.
Qualifications:
- Ability to write training attendance and compliance reports.
- Ability to exercise discretion while managing confidential information.
- Proficient in the basic career and personal facilitating process while possessing strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel spreadsheets
- Emotional Intelligence (EQ): high levels of self-awareness, maturity, and self-control
- Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills throughout all levels of the organization
- Excellent communication, decision making, and problem-solving skills
- Awareness of the cultural diversity associated with Palmetto Goodwill’s employees and territory.
- Ability to learn and apply different teaching techniques suitable for individual and classroom instruction.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team within the context of a team-based organization.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage and a privately owned reliable means of transportation to travel throughout assigned locations regularly.
- Ability to conform to Goodwill Industries Workplace requirements and Code of Ethics.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Human Resources, Communications, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
- 3–4 years of experience
