Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide active management and leadership to 20+ direct reports, including:
o Developing appropriate and tailored performance management targets for direct reports.
o Conducting all required departmental reviews in collaboration with frontline partners, recommending appropriate merit and salary adjustments, and recommending and preparing the required paperwork for promotions.
o Maintaining up to date job descriptions in partnership with Development Talent Management.
o Managing the corrective action process, when needed, in close partnership with appropriate departmental and Human Resources partners offering advocacy to the Associate Vice President and other departmental leaders as needed.
• Lead the recruiting and hiring process for open positions, partnering with Development Talent Management team and MGB Human Resources.
• Actively manage the orientation and onboarding of direct reports, partnering with frontline and non-frontline colleagues, as appropriate.
• Conduct regular team and individual meetings with direct reports and quarterly meetings with gift officers to ensure work productivity and team and individual morale.
• Identify challenges through analysis of current processes, recommend solutions and coach direct reports in process improvements and quality control/assurance, especially regarding processes related to charitable gift and expense processing, donor/fundraising data integrity, event support, and other development tasks.
• Manage all Workday and UKG functions for direct reports, forecast workloads and staffing requirements to ensure that service level remains acceptable. Restructure staffing patterns to meet any changing needs of the department.
• Regularly review individual performance in support of frontline team members’ fundraising outcomes and assess personal sense of accomplishment.
• Serve as an advocate and mentor to direct reports and encourage professional development.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the frontline team to understand fundraising goals and priorities to inform performance and service levels.
• Provide direct oversight of the Philanthropic Relations team budget and related sundry fund processes, including budget submission, tracking and reporting, and ensuring overall finance compliance with department and system policies and guidelines.
• Follow all office and system policies and ensure direct reports’ compliance.
• Assist in the development and communication of team policies and procedures and make recommendations for new initiatives and processes.

Job Summary
The Director of Development is a managerial position within the Mass General Brigham, Academic Medical Centers Development Office. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Development, Philanthropic Relations, the Director oversees a team of administrative support team members who provide administrative support for assigned frontline fundraising staff.
