OVERVIEW: Education Through Music seeks an entrepreneurial and ambitious Director of Finance to lead the organization's financial strategy during a period of growth. Our ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who understands business development; directs, manages, and oversees the activities in Finance and Legal; and strengthens and manages accounting, bookkeeping, and legal consultants while helping to build an in-house finance team.

Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. FINANCIAL LEADERSHIP & STRATEGY: Percentage of time spent: 80%
- Oversee development, documentation, and implementation of financial accounting, control and reporting systems, including restricted grant accounting and document retention
- Oversee bookkeeping and accountant consultants to ensure financial viability for the organization via cashflow oversight and management
- Support CEO and department directors in creation of organizational budgets and projections
- Liaise with board treasurer and finance committee; oversee scheduling and coordination of quarterly finance committee meetings
- Oversee annual financial audit
- Oversee monthly reconciliations process & other support as needed
- Act as senior point of contact for financial accounts including banking, credit card, and investment accounts
- Supervise all aspects of the organization’s payroll, the implementation of health insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, and other benefits
GRANTS & COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT:
- Advocate for financial needs through strategic planning
- Develop grant budgets and manage funding allocation to ensure expense coverage and compliance
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards, and deliver accurate and on-time reports for government funders and auditors
- Ensure compliance with state and federal grant laws and regulations and other relevant regulations; includes timely issuance of audited financial statements and various tax forms
- Submit accurate and timely indirect applications to federal agencies to maximize indirect funding available for each grant; collaborate with program team on reporting out on contracts
- Prepare financial reports to foundations and private funders
- Draft and coordinate development of contract applications and renewals to the NYC Department of Education
- Collaborate with Development Team on grant management and reconciliation of contributions
