About the role

Position Description

Tucson Electric Power, one of Arizona’s leading utility companies, seeks an individual for the position of Student Intern in the Renewable Energy Resources Department. The focus of this position will be to provide support in developing, or assisting the management of the renewable energy program to ensure goals and milestones are met; provide support for the research of existing and future renewable technologies; and gain knowledge of the interactions that occur on the electric grid when renewable energy introduced.

This internship is year-long and requires part-time hours during the school year, and full-time hours during breaks. We offer a hybrid work schedule, with on-site work at our downtown Tucson location. 

Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Assist in distributed generation interconnection application processing.
  • Organize company documents and working files related to renewable energy program management and compliance efforts.
  • Travel to renewable energy sites to assist others in gather performance and production data.
  • Provide input for existing program modifications and assist with new program or rate design.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
     

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Must be pursuing an Engineering Degree or a degree in Sustainability or related discipline with a graduation date of May 2026 or later.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products; including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational skills, including experience in managing large amounts of data and files.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative

 

Requirements

  • Must be able to work up to 20 hours per week during regular business hours; and up to 40 hours per week during summer and school breaks depending on the business needs.
  • Student Interns must maintain the required hours for full-time student status, good academic standing at their college or university, as defined by the college or university and the GPA required for graduation by their college or university.
  • Failure to maintain full-time status, good academic standing and/or the required GPA will result in Student Interns being deemed ineligible for participation in this program.
  • Student Interns are employed on a temporary basis and are generally not eligible for some benefits; including holiday pay.
  • Scheduling of work hours and assignments should be made taking into consideration that Student Interns are students first and employees second.
